The buildings where formerly offices within the Queen’s University Conservation Area. Our client sought to replace the rundown offices with 13 modern apartments. Rather than rework the internal arrangements to achieve this goal, it was more economically viable to the majority of the building. Given the conservation status it was critical that the front façade of the building was retained. No façade retention system was required as no additional load was placed in the existing elevation. As each floor developed it was tied into the façade.
The development process saw considerable new build works to deliver the units behind the façade yet by retaining the original façade, its as if now, nothing was touched.
