This project, on one of the countless small islands in Lough Erne, presenting us with one of the most beautiful locations in which to work. The project involves the refurbishment of a derelict cottage and barn to provide modern living accommodation whilst retaining the essential characteristics of the buildings.
We have sought to connect the separate buildings with a modern link and contain the accommodation within the existing structures. Minor extensions at the gables enabled us to maximise views form the living accommodation across the Lough and make the most of the solar gain to the southerly aspect. Due to its remote location services such as; heat, power and water are unavailable, so the design has had to embrace current sustainable technologies. This project is due on site early 2012.
